A new distillery for Islay
ili is a proposed new whisky distillery and visitor experience at Gearach Farm near Port Charlotte on Islay. The distillery will form a part of Islay’s legacy of whisky production, with a range of important benefits for the local area. It will be highly sustainable from the outset through the inclusion of renewable energy generation on-site, and will represent a long-term and sustainable diversification of the existing farm operation.
A Proposal of Application Notice (PAN) has been submitted to Argyll & Bute Council for the development of this new distillery and this commences an important period of pre-application consultation. The team behind ili had hoped to be able to host physical public exhibitions on the island. However, in light of the ongoing situation regarding COVID-19, and by closely following guidance from the Scottish Government regarding pre-application consultation, this website has been developed to ensure this engagement can take place.
Islay is already known for its distilleries. ili will not just serve as a continuation of this legacy, but a development of it: ili’s product will be carbon-neutral, with the creation of high-quality jobs and apprenticeships at the forefront of the overall vision to create a sustainable, lasting development for the island.
